Only seven mares have been confirmed to take to the barriers for Saturday’s 2016 Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens; highlighted by the inclusion of some of the Autumn Carnival’s most exciting racing prospects.
First Seal has not been seen at the races since the 2015 edition of the Autumn Carnival but is offered a great opportunity to return in winning form after drawing the ideal barrier 3 for the 2016 Millie Fox Stakes.
Posting an impressive four wins and five minors through eleven career starts so far, First Seal experienced a meteoric rise to prominence during the 2014 Spring Carnival campaign highlighted by success in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) and second place finish in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m).
Resuming last year for second in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m), the Fastnet Rock mare returned to winning form in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) before finishing second in each of the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) and Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m).
Popular grey Catkins has an exceptional first-up record and will be tough to beat in the Millie Fox Stakes from barrier 4 and with leading hoop Hugh Bowman aboard.
Claiming an exceptional sixteen wins and thirteen minors through 37 career starts so far, Catkins returned in 2015 for consecutive wins in the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) and Millie Fox Stakes before running second to Cosmic Endeavour in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).
Returning to winning form in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) in late March, the Dubawi mare returned to the paddock after placing second to Amanpour in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) on Day 2 of The Championships.
Resuming in spring for success in the Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1400m), Catkins was unable to much of an impact in her next two starts but has trialled well in the lead-up to her return in the Millie Fox Stakes.
Trainer Chris Waller has dominated the 2016 Millie Fox Stakes field after also confirming Ballet Suite and Telepathic for starts.
Producing a number of commendable performances at the highest level of racing in autumn and winter, Ballet Suite savaged the line for fourth in the Group 3 G1x Stakes (1600m) on October 24th but returned to the paddock after failing to fire and eighth in the Group 3 Summoned Stakes (1500m) on November 14th.
Telepathic will return from a brief freshen-up in the 2016 Millie Fox Stakes, having run fourth in the Listed Gosford Cup (2100m) most recently on January 8th.
