Just eight talented fillies and mares have been confirmed in the 2015 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) final field, highlighted by several leading prospects for success in major Group 1 races through the 2015 Autumn Carnival.
Avoid Lightning found exceptional racing form over the 2014 autumn and winter, and has been confirmed for a racing return in the 2015 Millie Fox Stakes final field.
Securing an impressive race record of ten wins and a further six minor place finishes over her 23 start career so far, Avoid Lightning (barrier 2) run on for a credible fifth in the Group 3 Roy Higgins Tribute (1200m) first-up in 2014; progressing to a close win in the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) before running second behind Cosmic Endeavour in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m).
Taking out each of the At Sea Handicap (1100m) and Listed June Stakes (1100m), the Blevic mare earned a trip north for the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 21st and finished an impressive third.
Returning for just one start over spring; an impressive win in the Group 3 Nivison (1200m) on October 18th, trainer Les Bridge has been thrilled with the form and class displayed by his stable star in the lead-up to her racing return and is confident of a competitive first-up performance.
Renowned mare Catkins successfully defended her Group 2 Breeders’ Classic (1200m) crown first-up two weeks ago, and is a great chance of 2015 Millie Fox Stakes success despite drawing the somewhat wide barrier 7.
Taking out the Group 3 Wiggle Stakes (1400m) and placing third in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) following her 2014 Breeders’ Classic triumph, Catkins returned to the winner’s circle in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) before a disappointing run for sixth in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m).
Confirming the Queen Of The Turf Stakes figures as her major target once more this season, trainer Chris Waller has been pleased with the Dubawi mare’s progression since her first-up win and is confident of continued success this weekend.
Lilliburlero displayed an exceptional turn of foot to push Catkins all the way in the Breeders’ Classic a fortnight ago, and is positioned fairly to go one better in the 2015 Millie Fox Stakes after drawing barrier 5.
A noted performer early in her racing preparations, Lilliburerlo won the Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1200m) and finished second in the Roy Higgins Tribute upon resuming in 2014; returning for a credible third in the Group 3 Mumm Stakes (1100m) at the beginning of her three race spring campaign.
Yet to have a jockey confirmed for Saturday, trainer David Payne is confident the daughter of Redoute’s Choice will find winning form ahead of her major autumn target; the Coolmore Classic at Rosehill on March 14th.
Gai Waterhouse-trained Mardi will leave from the rails draw in the 2015 Millie Fox Stakes, while Joe Pride’s talented mare Chintz has been charged with overcoming the outside barrier 8.
Plucky Belle (barrier 6), Breakfast In Bed (barrier 3) and Il Mio Destino (barrier 4) complete the 2015 Millie Fox Stakes final field.
