Dear Demi to Resume in 2015 Millie Fox Stakes

February 4th, 2015

Having returned to competitive form over a four start Spring Carnival campaign before a minor injury ended her season, trainer Clarry Conners has revealed classy mare Dear Demi will return to racing in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens on February 21st.

Placing a credible fifth amongst classy competition on the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) on August 30th, Dear Demi was unlucky to finish an agonizingly-close second to Group 1 winner Commanding Jewel in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) on September 13th, before returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 2 Stocks Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on September 26th.

Returning to the paddock following a seventh place finish in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on October 11th, Conners has been thrilled with the form and class displayed by the Dehere mare since her return to work and is confident she will return in the 2015 Millie Fox Stakes in full fitness.

“She loves being in the stable to tell you the truth and she is a tremendous eater, I have to watch what I feed her,” Connors told Sky Racing HQ.

“She does do well and I’ve never had any limb ailments with her ever since she has been in the stable, she has been as good as gold.

“She had an inflamed throat in Melbourne and that is the only thing she has had her whole career.”

Claiming seven wins and a further 13 minor places over her 37 appearances at the races to date, Dear Demi arguably found career-best form over the 2013 racing calendar; highlighted by second place finishes in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) and Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) and a credible third in the major Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m).

Appearing to have returned in similarly impressive form during the 2014 Autumn Carnival when third in the Group 3 Wiggle Stakes (1400m) first-up, Dear Demi was unable to make much of an impact in placing tenth in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m), failing to beat a single runner home in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile and finishing a forgettable eighth in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on April 19th.

Yet to be confirmed for a specific target this season, Dear Demi is currently available at a particularly generous quote of $51 for success in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes with
