2010 Millie Fox Stakes Won By Montana Flyer

March 1st, 2010

Montana Flyer, trained by Gai Waterhouse, won the Group 3 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) in a fantastic finish on Saturday at the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse.

Favourite to win the race, the four-year-old started strong, but looked as though the win was out of her reach in the final straight as the rest of the field strengthened. Blake Shinn did well and got the best out of Montana Flyer to win the 2010 Millie Fox Stakes by half a head.

Michael Nolan’s Chakvetadze came in second after a strong surge down the finishing straight and looked to take out the race before Montana Flyer’s final sprint.

Rounding out the top three was Subtle Cove. Going into the 2010 Millie Fox Stakes, the five-year-old was at the bottom of the odds, however provided a thrilling end to her 1,300 metre race.

John O’Shea-trained Strawberry Field put on a disappointing display, finishing fourth after looking strong in the run up to the race. O’Shea’s other runner for the 2010 Millie Fox Stakes, Jessicabeel, was scratched from the start.

Waterhouse is now looking at the 20th of March and the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) as the follow-up event for Montana Flyer.

Also taking place at the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse was the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) and the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m).
